Standard Chess Rules

2MoveChess maintains all the familiar rules of standard chess that you already know:

• Each piece moves according to its traditional movement pattern
• The game is played on a standard 8×8 chess board
• White moves first, followed by alternating turns
• Castling, en passant, and pawn promotion work as in regular chess

If you know how to play regular chess, you already understand most of 2MoveChess!

Exception #1: The Two-Move Rule

Here's where 2MoveChess introduces its revolutionary twist:

When a piece is taken, your opponent gets TWO standard chess moves in succession.

This game-changing rule means that every capture becomes a strategic dilemma. Taking an opponent's piece gives them the advantage of making two consecutive moves—creating exciting tactical possibilities and requiring deeper calculation!

Exception #2: Resolving Check

If your king is placed in check and you have two moves, your first move MUST be to resolve the check.

When your king is under attack, your priority is to protect it with your first move. Your second move can then be used for any legal move of your choice.

This rule ensures that players can't ignore a check even when they have the advantage of two moves.

Exception #3: Winning the Game

In 2MoveChess, there's a crucial difference in how you can win:

The king does not have to be placed in checkmate to lose. If you can use two moves to capture the king, you win.

This means if you have two moves and can use them to capture your opponent's king, you win immediately! This creates dramatic endgames and exciting tactical opportunities that don't exist in standard chess.
